By Celine McArthur Tue, December 06, 2011 1:02 pm EDT

With the Florida Department of Education’s approval, Florida State College is moving forward with plans to offer a Converged Communications Bachelor’s degree. Provided that the College receives the necessary approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the program is scheduled to launch in Fall 2012.

The super-soldier— I think that is the journalist of the future. ”~Leonard Pitts, Jr. responds to Florida State College at Jacksonville's plan (pending SACS approval) to offer a Converged Communications program.

In the meantime, our Strategic Communications unit is creatively stimulating curiosity and ramping up awareness of the new degree by offering the Annenberg series “News Reporting” on the Florida State College Network, Comcast Cable channel 26.

This series, produced in 1995, boasts a who’s who of respected, interesting, award-winning journalists (Bob Woodward, Helen Thomas, Charles Kuralt and many others) who cover the basics of news writing and reporting.

Some things don’t change, such as good writing and reporting; some things, such as how news and information is delivered, have probably changed since you started reading this paragraph.

To address the dynamic world of news, information and communication Strategic Communications is adding original content. We are producing interviews with local and national media and communications experts, including Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Leonard Pitts, Jr., Times-Union Editors Frank Denton and Mike Clark, WJCT President and CEO Michael Boylan, and a host of others.

Up first: Leonard Pitts.  This award-winning communicator is also a traveling professor.  He currently teaches at Princeton, and recently lectured at Florida State College's Kent Campus.

Their experience and opinions will enrich and educate viewers, prospective students and the community about where communications stands and where they believe it is headed.

For those of you who don't have Comcast, you can see all of the post-show interviews here.
