EmbedEighteen policy committees to focus on challenges and opportunities; diverse expertise drawn from all corners.
Jacksonville's Mayor-Elect Alvin Brown announced the names of a "diverse, inclusive" group of 40 community leaders to serve on his mayoral transition team at a press conference held June 2 at City Hall. The three strategic chairs of the team are business and civic leader Peter Rummell, Pastor H.T. Rihm of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church and community leader and philanthropist Deloris Weaver. Also serving as co-chairs are State Sen. Tony Hill and Sulzbacher Center President and CEO Audrey Moran. Eighteen fact-finding policy committees will be co-chaired by leaders from education, business, local government, healthcare and faith organizations.
Co-chairing the Workforce Development policy committee are Florida State College at Jacksonville President Steven Wallace and Rev. James B. Sampson, pastor of First New Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
"Alvin is bringing in amazingly diverse people from all walks of life and from every area of expertise," said Lisa Strange Weatherby, chair of the Florida State College Foundation Board, and co-chair of the Transportation committee. "We'll draw on that expertise."
Mayor-elect Brown will announce the remaining members of the policy committees the week of June 6. He anticipates that they will accomplish their goals by June 30. More information about how citizens can get involved in the transition process is available online at the City of Jacksonville's Web site http://www.coj.net/Mayor/Mayor-s-Transition.aspx. Citizens can also call the Transition Office at 904-630-7080.
