Florida State College Grad Launches Career in One of Jax’s Hottest Restaurants!

By FSCJ Admin Wed, July 06, 2011 4:54 pm EDT

Mike Prieto was a just a guy with an empty stomach, and he used that hunger as motivation to earn a college degree.

“When I left home I got hungry and cooked myself something, and I was like gee this is fun, I’d like to do this for 100 more people,” said Prieto.

Mike attended the School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality at Florida State College at Jacksonville. He earned an A.S. degree in Culinary Management. During the first week of courses, he applied for a job with a local restaurant named Bistro Aix. They hired him as a dishwasher and Mike used his experience at FSCJ to climb the ranks to Oven Cook.

“I feel the program gave me a big jump-start,” said Prieto.

Check out the video to learn more about Mike Prieto and his time in the Culinary Program at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
