Student Spotlight: Digital Media

Meet Scott Lowery, a Digital Media student at Florida State College at Jacksonville. He says the program will give him the chance to turn his passion and hobbies into a real career.

“When I was really young, I always stole my mom’s camera, the video cameras when they were the big VHS box,” said Scott Lowery.

Lowery has always loved movies. When it was time to pick a college, he looked at Full Sail and Florida Southern to pursue a career in film.

“My mom, who is a professor here, she kept pushing me to check out FSCJ. Finally, I said I would see what it is all about.”

It turned out to be good choice for him.

“Our teachers are actually showing us their projects, what they have used, and we are seeing the end result without having to sit and be told it. We are not being spoon-fed; we are being shown the actual results,” says Lowery.

The digital media student is taking an iPad editing class. He is learning the basics of the tablet, as well as how to edit on the go.

Lowery believes he has received a lot of real world experience thanks to his professors.

“I think we can bring design firms back here, and with the college finally offering it, as big as this one is, it will be great. It’s not just for the students, but it will be great for the economy in Jacksonville,” said Lowery.
