Faculty Spotlight: Digital Media

Florida State College at Jacksonville students looking for creative, high-tech careers are turning to the School of Digital Media and Entertainment Technology. Dr. Troy Johnson, the program manager, says they will have a unique experience thanks to smaller classes, and more hands on training.

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Digital Media for Florida State College at Jacksonville received enthusiastic approval by the Florida Board of Education and the regional accrediting agency, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The program will be launched in the fall of 2012.

“I think it is important to be able to offer the community an upper-division course that will be competitive, not just locally, but on a statewide scale,” said Dr. Troy Johnson.

The program will help students create a portfolio of work. According to Johnson, the college strives to maintain industry standard technology from recording production to video production to 3D animation.

“We offer very unique opportunities here at Florida State College. Our faculty is always coming up with new and unique opportunities.”

One example is Professor Marc Boese’s video production course. His students are using iPads to write, shoot, and edit projects.
